英文可溝通，為什麼在董事會仍然不夠？

董事會裡，真正讓人卡住的時刻，通常不是在簡報時。

而是當有人問你一句：“So what’s your position on this?”

那一瞬間，你其實不是在想英文怎麼說，而是在想——我現在到底該站在哪裡。

英文可溝通的人，卡的不是語言

多數走進董事會的人，英文其實都可以溝通。能簡報、能討論、能回答問題。

但一到董事會，句子突然變短，語氣變得保守。

不是因爲英文退步，而是因爲這個場景不再只是「溝通」。

董事會討論的，是取捨、風險、方向與承擔。

而這些東西，需要的不是更多資訊，而是立場。

沒有立場的英文，聽起來像流水帳

在董事會裡，常會聽到一些英文句子，沒有錯，但也沒有位置：

• We are still reviewing the situation. （我們還在審視狀況）

• There are some risks we need to consider.　（還有一些得考慮的風險）

• We will continue to monitor the situation.　（我們會繼續關注情況）

這些句子都在講「正在發生什麼」，卻沒有說你怎麼看。

聽了這類英文，心裡會想「所以呢？」很難接下去討論。

有立場的英文，差別通常只在一句話的轉向

英文不一定變難，只是從「描述」轉成「判斷」。

怎麼看現在的狀況

• （Ｘ） We are still reviewing the situation.

• （Ｏ） At this point, I believe the current approach still makes sense.

願不願意承擔判斷

• （Ｘ） There are some risks we need to consider.

• （Ｏ） The main risk, in my view, is execution rather than demand.

什麼時候會改變看法

• （Ｘ） We will continue to monitor the situation.

• （Ｏ） I would support moving forward, as long as we set clear exit criteria.

英文沒有變強硬，只是讓人聽得出來你站在哪裡。

什麼是「立場」？

在董事會裡，立場不是態度，也不是強勢。

它通常只回答三件事：

• 你怎麼看現在的狀況

• 你願不願意承擔這個判斷

• 什麼情況下你會改變看法

只要其中一件說清楚，英文就站得住。

爲什麼一換成英文，立場反而不見了？

因爲一進英文場景，很多人會自動退回「安全說法」：

• 講事實

• 講過程

• 不講判斷

在一般會議裡，這沒有問題。

但董事會正在討論的，偏偏是那些還沒有答案、卻必須有人先站出來的位置。

英文只是把這個落差放大。

10 句董事會英文＝10 個立場

1. 我可以支持繼續，但前提是我們要先把退場條件講清楚。

I would support moving forward, provided we set clear exit criteria.

2. 現在還跑得動，但風險是在往上走。

The plan is still viable, but risk exposure is increasing.

3. 方向我覺得沒錯，只是步調可能要放慢一點。

The direction makes sense, but we may need to slow down execution.

4. 我比較擔心的，其實不是需求，而是後面的執行。

The main risk, in my view, is execution rather than demand.

5. 如果現在不決定，後面的成本只會更高。

Delaying the decision will increase cost and uncertainty.

6. 在目前條件下，我會比較傾向選 B。

I would lean toward option B under the current constraints.

7. 短期一定會有壓力，但拉長來看，我還是覺得這個方向對。

This will put pressure on margins in the short term, but it’s defensible long term.

8. 現在可以繼續做，但我不會無條件一直加碼。

At this stage, it’s worth continuing, but not without tighter controls.

9. 如果市場狀況再變，我對這件事的看法也會調整。

My view would change if market conditions deteriorate further.

10. 就目前看到的狀況，我現在會這樣判斷。

Based on what we see so far, this is the most reasonable path forward.

這些句子有一個共通點：聽得出來你站在哪裡。

在董事會裡，英文的價值不是清楚，而是可被迴應。

一旦立場出現，討論纔會往前走。
